I have created this blog so all of you who said you can "live vicariously through me" can. Also it's for those of you who didn't say that but still are curious or just plain bored. It will document my adventures in brasil.

Novidades ("News" in english)

Ok, so today has been fairly uneventful other than being irrationally emotional about music, but it happens. There actually has been some important stuff since a week ago. I finally decided to give this whole "having friends" thing a try and I have kind of found a group I might stick with. Me and one guy in particular get along and we mostly just talk and listen to Metal. Tim (my new friend) is from Virginia and we get along pretty well, at the beginning of the year we met but it didn't really transcend the normal "just met" chatter. We have hit it off pretty well, he loves travel like me and also is extremely interested in Russia like me and he is actually learning Russian now so that is a big thing for us. We kind of ran into an uncomfortable situation though today, one of his friends had apparently chucked a large hunk of ice into someones room and it made a big mess because it hit beer cans and stuff and the dude was very unhappy with that so he tried to get physical with Tim because he knew it was either Tim or one of his friends that had thrown it so he tried to get Tim to rat and it didn't work, luckily nobody got hurt and everything turned out somewhat ok. I've had a rather exorbitant amount of work because most of my classes are intro classes, which I knew would happen but it is ok because I have already studied these subjects before so it isn't hard for me, just a lot of work. Tim and I are probably going to go to a concert in a couple weeks so that'll be cool, the name of the band is Suicide Silence and even though I hadn't ever heard of them before a couple of days ago I like them. They are metal of course haha. OOOOHH YAAA, I ran out of procrastination material namely "House". I finally finished the show so that was really sad but I am trying to avoid any new tv shows that can cause procrastination. I am definitely going to try to get back into reading because I miss it. But, even though we have 3 gigantic libraries I can't bring myself to check out any books because I am so awkward and uncertain of everything. College has ended up being a lot of pressure which I kind of expected but idk.. It just has't really been everything I was expecting and wanting it to be, which is mostly my fault I guess... But thats ok, gotta work on it, life is a big test to see what youre made of and I will do just fine... I have been thinking a lot lately and I am fairly certain I am going to have to spend a lot of time outside of the country, which is what I want, but kind of conflicts with my current plans. There is such a longing in me though and I miss my other home and all my friends and my life. Granted, I can't exactly have my Brazil life back, but I can live there... I also have to decide on a middle eastern country I want to go to. I think Morocco. That would be cool... There are other aspects of my future that I have been rethinking as well.. It is complicated.. But, oh well! How about a story from the past? hmmmmm.... Oh! I was going back to Arkansas for Thanksgiving break as a surprise for my mom from Mike and apparently the Burlington airport closes at night. I didn't know this beforehand and my flight was at 5:30 a.m. when no buses ran from here so I was like "why don't I just head over the day before and sleep in the airport? I have no problem with that!" So, I got my bus ticket and made it to Burlington airport where I was informed that they close at night. So, I am screwed right? Wrong! Luckily I am smart haha it is also lucky that I pack lightly. I ended up walking a mile and a half to mcdonalds which is open 24 hours a day of course. So for the night I subsided on free refills and buffalo ranch mcchickens as well as Netflix. Now, Vermont is really freaking cold so the walk there was already cold, but the walk back the next morning was absolutely freezing! But I made it to my airport on time and headed to Arkansas. I made there after a couple of connections and stuff. Then at the airport I was greeted with one of mom and mikes mutual friends, whose name I don't recall. She drove me to moms house and then knocked on the door and told mom that she had a package for her(I was hidden around the corner) so when I heard that I walked out and my mom screamed and burst in to tears and just stood there for a second trying to believe what she was seeing, then she rushed over and bear hugged me. It was hilarious for me haha. Welp, that's about all I got this time, got homework to finish of course.
Talk to y'all (whoever that may be, probably just me haha) later

It happens

So, it's been what? A couple years or thereabouts? In all honesty I kind of forgot this thing existed but I have rediscovered it and decided it might be a useful conduit for posting all of my (mis)adventures. I have seen and done quite a lot since my last post. Places include (but aren't limited to): Seattle, Colorado, all the states between Arkansas and Vermont including a significant stay in NYC, Montreal to visit my good friend Cookie (who was a very gracious host by the way), Lafayette in Louisiana, I popped into Massachusetts for a bit (fencing tournament), and I think that covers most of it.  I did my real senior year which was pretty awesome, I picked up German and some Russian, some friends, a great girlfriend, acceptance to some great colleges, I even had an apartment to myself for a while. There were downsides too of course, I lost a really good friend because of estupidez, I strained my relationship with some of my "parents" on accident and I also lost a girlfriend (not the aforementioned one), and had some terrible homesickness for Brazil. That chapter has passed and now I am in college. Middlebury College in Vermont to be exact. It has its own merits and I have bettered some of my previous languages (Spanish and Portuguese) and I have started in on Arabic. It has been pretty tough, no real friends (partly by choice, don't need distractions), I have a couple of jobs which in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, and then there is the never ending snow! Overall I do like it here though and it is one of the best colleges in the country for foreign languages. I intend to pick up Russian next year and maybe this summer I can get a job utilizing these languages I have put so much effort into. My roommate and I don't really get along but for the most part we kind of try to avoid each other, the things that cause my somewhat passionate anger toward him is a rant for another time. His name is Berend and he lives in Russia (unrelated to my disdain). My favorite job that I have at the moment is working for my college theatre, I help set up and build scenes and do general work in the theatre, it is a pretty good deal. I still have that awesome girlfriend I mentioned earlier (shout out to that awesome female, Sam) she puts up with my special brand of craziness like a trooper.
Here we are. Awesome huh? You should be jealous haha. There is a lot of stuff I haven't said, mostly cuz saying it all here would take foooreeevvverrrrr. Tyler is in a trade school thing training to be an aviation mechanic and Tolby is in highschool which is just crazy... He is still kind of a rough draft but mom and I are working on shaping him up. Oh, and Mike too. I haven't mentioned anything about Mike! He's an awesome dude that mom is kind of dating, idk, I don't ask because I don't want to know. I just know he is a really great guy and they are great together and should be together. He bought me a car, her a car, has funded multiple vacations and done many things for our family, but I don't like him for his money.  He is really nice and charismatic and generous and just an all around great guy.
There is my family, we are in Silverton, Colorado here. A trip Mike funded and I planned and it was pretty great. There are posts worth of stuff to be written about that trip alone. Kind of rambling and running out of stuff to say but I'm sure I will think of more. Talk to y'all after while (hopefully not so long next time).

It's been a while

My latest adventure was by far the best. My awesome, wonderful host family took me to morro de são paulo (saint Paul hill) except it's a city on an island. It was what everyone dreams of when they think of a paradise island. Palm trees everywhere, perfectly warmed water, and of course awesome fish and wildlife. I did /2 things that weekend I thought I would never do because of my extreme fear of heights. 1) I rode a horse. This gives  an idea of how scared of heights I am and 2) I zip lined. 900 ft of pure awesomeness! I was terrified when I had to jump off of that rickety, wooden platform onto normal rope to slide over rocks and into the ocean. I had the guy push me. After that first very girl-like scream I opened ,y eyes and wasn't scared because it was so wonderful and beautiful. It was sunset. I also snorkeled and saw some really awesome fish.
Next adventure: Baja grande. A beach that is allegedly better. I leave the day of my birthday.

soccer

I started playing soccer here. I had never played or seen a game in my life. This was probably not the smartest decision. Injuries up until now include but are not limited to bloody nose, soccer ball to the solar plexus, and a big hole in my shoe where my big toe is. I get beaten regularly by thirteen year olds and I still haven't scored a goal. I am quite awful. Hahaha

yummy chorrasco (barbeque)

They use actual charred wood and start the fire then use bellows to get it hot and ready for grilling. This is pineapple, filet mignon, linguiça (sausage), and chicken.

15th birthday

Here in Brazil a girls 15th birthday party is a big thing. If your parents are rich at least. I recently was able to attend one.... it was awesome! There were two parts to the 2nd floor of the building and one was for dancing and the other for the actual party part. A friend named Amanda made me come dance.... I'm awful at dancing as many of you know so that was interesting.. also I had this guaraná(best soda ever!) And strawberry mix that was sooooo awesome. There were tons of people there and big banners with her pictures on them and a short video about her and her life. Also chocolate. Sooo much chocolate.
